Legacy Knights Numismatic Society

Our next meeting will be held Monday, April 28, from 3 to 5pm, featuring guests from the Ohio Detectorists Association (ODA), a regional metal detecting group, who have used their skills to find many valuable historical artifacts (including coins!) hidden in the ground.  We will meet in the LCA Library first, then venture out (weather permitting) to the school grounds to practice using metal detectors supplied by the ODA... please dress for the weather!  We've found lots of coins in the past, so be sure not to miss!  Parents welcome to join!

Our new LKNS tokens made by Osborne Coinage will be arriving soon!  We are hoping to be able to distribute some by our April 28 meeting!

Our final meeting of 2024-25 will be our Annual Auction, Monday, May 12, 3-5(ish) pm, in the School Cafeteria.  We will use our new LKNS tokens for the first time for bidding!  Annual earnings statements, along with info on how students can earn more auction money, have been sent already.  Please continue to watch for emails and texts as the date nears.  Try to finish up those projects and get credit by the April 28 meeting!

The Annual LKNS Awards will be held in conjunction with Awards Chapel for the elementary grades on Wednesday, May 21 (the last day of school) in the Auditorium.

A Knight To Remember 2025 Class Gift Basket Donations

As we gear up for our Annual Fundraising Dinner and Auction, we are excited to invite you to be a part of something truly special for our school community. One of the highlights of the event is the silent auction gift baskets. As part of the auction baskets, different grades create a one-of-a-kind basket packed with amazing goodies that represent family fun and teacher favorites. This is where you come in! We would love your support in contributing to your child's class gift basket.

By donating, you not only help raise funds for important school improvements, but also create a memorable experience for your child to see how their class basket comes together. Together, we can make this year's auction a huge success!

Thank you for your generosity and involvement in helping make a difference, one basket at a time!
While we greatly appreciate any and all items donated, we kindly encourage signing up using the Sign-Up Genius button below to minimize duplicates and provide convenient ideas for the basket. Your support is truly appreciated!

Measles is Making News in Ohio

LCA upholds parents’ right to determine whether to vaccinate their children. We acknowledge that beliefs regarding vaccines generate deeply held convictions for some members of our community. The goal of this communication is to proactively inform parents of the steps we would take to prevent the spread of measles if cases are confirmed in our school community. If measles cases are confirmed in our community (LCA students, their households, their circle of exposure), local health departments require unvaccinated (MMR or MMRV) students to stay home from school to prevent further spread. Exclusion typically lasts 21-28 days from the last known case. If you or your child is exposed to a confirmed case of measles, please seek medical advice promptly and report exposure to the school nurse at 352-1655.

Below is an excerpt from a media release by the Ohio Department of Health on 3/25/25

Ohio Department of Health (ODH) Director Bruce Vanderhoff, MD, MBA, announced (on 3/25/25) a measles outbreak in Ashtabula County and one confirmed case of a visitor in Knox County who exposed others to measles in Knox and nearby counties.

ODH and Ashtabula County have identified 10 measles cases. Nine are linked to an adult male reported last week as the state’s first measles case of 2025.

Measles is extremely contagious and can spread to others through coughing and sneezing. It can be brought into Ohio by individuals who travel to places where measles is spreading. If people are not protected against the disease, nine out of 10 people who are exposed will become ill.

The measles vaccine (called MMR as it protects against measles, mumps and rubella) is safe and effective at preventing measles. Two doses of MMR is 97% effective against measles. If you are up to date on the measles vaccine, the risk of getting sick is extremely low.

The CDC recommends all children get two doses of MMR vaccine, starting with the first dose at 12 through 15 months of age, and the second dose at 4 through 6 years of age.

In most instances, adults who were vaccinated against measles as children do not need any additional doses as adults. However, adults who did not receive the MMR vaccine as children or those who are unsure about their vaccination status are encouraged to talk to their healthcare provider for more information.

Those born prior to 1957 are likely protected by previous infection.

The measles virus can live for up to two hours in air where an infected person coughed or sneezed. If other people breathe the contaminated air or touch an infected surface and then touch their eyes, noses, or mouths, they can become infected. People infected with measles can spread it to others from four days before, through four days after a rash appears.

Measles symptoms include a rash, high fever, runny nose, cough, loss of appetite and red, watery eyes. The rash usually lasts five to six days and begins at the hairline, moves to the face and upper neck, and proceeds down the body. Diarrhea and ear infections are common complications of measles. More severe complications may also occur.
