School Counselor, Full-time
 
Summary:

An LCA School Counselor supports students in their academic, personal, and spiritual growth, seeking to maximize opportunities for development while supporting the individual needs of each student. The School Counseling office is responsible for schoolwide social and emotional programming, acute/traumatic counseling needs, course and student scheduling, coordinating and interpreting standardized testing, maintaining school records, and providing academic counseling for students and families. The School Counseling office is also responsible for assisting high school students in college preparation, career assessment, college identification, and the college application process.

Legacy Christian Academy, founded in 1967 as Xenia Christian Day School, is a private, college-preparatory, non-denominational PreK-12 school that seeks to equip leaders for Christ. Students meet admissions standards both academically and spiritually. LCA’s 540 students come from a 5-county area. LCA is located on the historic site of the Ohio Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Orphan’s Home, and facilities include four buildings: two academic buildings, a gymnasium, and a 750-seat auditorium. LCA also uses athletic fields located on the Athletes in Action campus, located within walking distance from the school. LCA is fully committed to maintaining an ethnically/culturally diverse faculty and student body within a biblical community.

  • Excellent people skills
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently within a team context
  • Demonstrated compassion and heart for students in grades PreK-12 and their families
  • Interest in developing a growth mindset in students and encouraging them toward a rigorous academic schedule in keeping with individual student needs
  • Ability to motivate student action and persistence in the college planning and application process
  • Commitment to maintain appropriate confidentiality and professionalism
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, including public speaking
  • Computer fluency, including Google Apps
  • Networking ability with college admissions offices 
  • Availability for some evening events and presentations
  • Bachelor’s degree in school counseling, education, social work, human services, or a related field
  • Obtain an ODE issued certificate to teach in an Ohio nonpublic school prior to employment
  • ACSI certification or ability to obtain ACSI certification prior to employment
 
Ideal Qualifications: 
  • Master’s degree or higher in School Counseling, Counseling, or related field
  • State of Ohio School Counseling License
  • Experience using Naviance in a school counseling setting
  • Experience utilizing FACTS (RenWeb) School Information System
  • Prior work experience in school counseling, college and career counseling, or college admissions
  • Ability and interest in involvement in the LCA co-curricular program (related experience preferred)
