Next Monday, October 10, Legacy Christian Academy will host the Ancient Hebrew Scroll display, the only complete set of the Tanakh (Old Testament) in the world available for public display.
Our students will get to view the scrolls, and anyone in our school family is welcome to come to the auditorium to view them anytime between 12-4 pm. The public will be invited to view the scrolls at 7 pm that evening. What an exciting opportunity!
Where will you be on Labor Day weekend? You may not know where you will be, but ask Grace Norman where she’ll be. The short answer is Rio – as in Rio de Janeiro. Competing in the Paralympic Games. Yes, folks…. THE Paralympic Games.
This date has been on Grace’s calendar for some time now, and God continues to enable our XC senior to keep knocking down barriers and smashing time records to make this dream a reality.
Grace will be competing on Team USA’s Paralympic Track & Field squad. Grace is in the “T44” category as defined by the US Paralympic Committee which is a lower leg deficiency in one leg. When she competes on the paratriathlon circuit, she is in the PT4 category which is a below the elbow or below the knee amputee.
Grace holds the American T44 records in the 400 meter, 800 meter, 1500 meter and the 3200 meter and is the current T44 world record holder in the 800 meter and the 1500 meter. She took a bronze medal in the World Championships in Doha, Qatar last fall.
Grace is currently focusing on the Xenia Christian track season as she will not be competing on the world circuit for a while.
At the April 16th Vandalia Butler track meet Grace set a new World Record in the 1500m of 4:52.16. She cut over 6 seconds off her previous time set last year. On Friday, April 29th Grace will go after her 800m World Record at the Wayne Invitational! Both meets were IPC (International Paralympic Committee) approved which mean that Grace's times run at these meets will go directly toward her world ranking in Paralympic Track.
While she continues to train with her XC teammates, she is also in contact daily with her USA triathlon coach Wes Johnson so that she typically trains 2 disciplines a day: swim, bike, run.
For the triathlon, Grace secured her spot on Team USA for the paratriathlon in Rio by her win at the Continental Championships. Her next world triathlon will be in July when she races the World Championships in the Netherlands.
This spring she was also able to be involved in the Xenia Christian musical, Peter Pan, as the Pirate, Noodler. Optimus Prosthetics provided her a wooden peg leg for her role.
The US Paralympic trials for track and field will be held in Charlotte, North Carolina at the end of June. This past Fall Grace earned a country spot for the US by her performance at the World Championships in Doha, Qatar. She will race the 400m again at the National Championships, and the USA Track team will be announced at a special ceremony in NC on July 3rd.
This world-class athlete was also named one of the 2015 Greene County Achievers by the Greene County Commissioners. This award is given to citizens of Greene County that bring positive recognition to our community.
This scholar-athlete also received a scholarship for being named as an finalist for an Anthony Munoz Adversity Scholarship. This scholarship is given directly for the positive influence and inspiration that Grace has exhibited in sports throughout her high school career.
In May, Grace will officially sign with Cedarville University to run as a Yellow Jacket in Cross Country and Track.
There are many who are writing about Grace, in far better ways than we can, so throughout the late spring and into summer we’ll be giving updates so you’ll know the answer to “where in the world is Grace?” We do know that some of her international stops before Rio will be in Spain and the Netherlands.
Grace Norman is an amazing athlete, giving God all of the Glory. Congratulations Grace and we will be watching you at Rio in the Paralympic Summer Olympics.
